Remember your childhood days, when you have your new toy, weren’t you happy, excited and you run to show them to your siblings? Well, I had those moments, I felt that rush of joy where you say look, look I have a new toy, and you don’t want to share. I was this kid, I even go as far as keeping it in my “secret place”, so no one will see.
I carried that through adulthood, may it be with achievements at school or news from a friend, crushes, love letters, I want to run to my friends, super excited to share my whereabouts.
But, not the Blessed Virgin, She’s so quiet, She’s good on keeping things all by herself. I wonder maybe, if I were Her, I could have run to my Mom, Mama I’ll be the Mother of the Messiah, tell my friends and everyone that I’ll come across, and maybe a little bit of boasting and the feeling of entitlement.
She did not have any of those, here She is, the chosen one of God, the one who crushed the head of the serpent, hastily visited her cousin Elizabeth. A 14 year old pregnant Blessed Virgin Mary, came there knowing that St. Elizabeth is in need of help, for she is old. She puts Herself last, and though She’s the chosen one, yet serves.
“Listen and let it penetrate your heart…do not be troubled or weighed down with grief. Do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the folds of my mantle? In the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else you need?” (Our Lady’s words to her servant Juan Diego.)
How comforting it is, that we have her as our Mother, keen to the needs of others, She helps though not sought. May we, find consolation by this universal truth, how much more if we confide in her and ask her intercession. I’m imagining her, hastily runs to Jesus, and who among you, who are a son, would decline to their Mom?
